How to Prevent American Dog Tick Infestations
Ticks are parasitic arachnids and need blood meals from animals to survive. Most dog owners would only encounter these ticks by picking them up in the wilderness, because American dog tick young (nymphs) only live and survive on small wildlife (rodents, rabbits, etc.) but can survive on canine blood as adults. Pet owners should thoroughly inspect their animals anytime they have been out for walks in the country and remove any ticks found.
