How to Get Rid of Lice
Treatment of the infected person(s) to get lice under control is necessary using over-the-counter or prescription medications and/or shampoos and fine-toothed combs to remove nits (eggs) from the hair.
Head lice do not survive long if they fall off a person and cannot feed. All that is necessary to do is machine wash and dry clothing, bed linens and other items the infested person wore or used during the 2 days before treatment, using hot water laundry cycle and high heat drying cycle, or, sealed in plastic bags and stored for 2 weeks. Soak combs and brushes in hot water for 5-10 minutes. Vacuuming the floor and furniture can also be done.
Pest control measures are not necessary.
